UPDATE: Driver faces homicide charges in Grant County, WI. crash

UPDATE:  The driver of the semi is now facing homicide charges in the crash.  According to our coverage partners at the Telegraph Herald, Eugeniu Caraus, 27, of Lombard, Illinois faces two counts of Homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.  If convicted, he could face up to ten years in prison.


UPDATE: 69-year-old John Hansen and 66-year-old Francine Hansen, of Moline, Illinois were killed in the crash.


Two people were killed early Friday morning after a semi apparently missed a stop sign and hit their car, according to the Grant County, Wis. Sheriff's Office.

The collision happened just before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 129 and Highway A in South Lancaster Township.

According to the sheriff's office, the semi was traveling east on A when it failed to stop at an intersection.  They say an unidentified man and woman were in a Chevy traveling north on Highway 129, and were hit by the semi.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Identification is pending notification of the family, and the accident remains under investigation.
