Iowa Chiropractor treating Team USA in Rio

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

One Iowa native is headed to Rio to help treat Team USA.

For this year's team USA wrestlers, Cedar Rapids Chiropractor Dr. Matthew Dietz will be one of the doctors tending to the specific needs of these elite athletes.

"Olympic level athletes are kind of freaks of nature if you will. They are on this other level that most of us can never even achieve," said Dr. Dietz who has been working with professional and elite athletes for years.

Dr. Dietz will be correcting the kinks and misalignment the wrestlers are bound to get while facing their opponents on the mat.

It is a lot of pressure when the most coveted medal in sports is on the line, but Dr. Dietz isn't worried having experienced it all in the 2012 London Games.

"You can't even put into words what it feels like and that energy. . .Everybody is pumped. Everybody is excited about it. There is stuff going on constantly; left and right," said Dr. Dietz.

Dr. Dietz has been helping train athletes like Iowa graduate and Olympic Freestyle Wrestler Dan Dennis on the long road to Rio.

"We have that same joy when they win and we feel the sorrow when they lose. But it all happens in a split second on the mat. You never know what is going to happen, but that is why you do it. That is why it is fun," said Dr. Dietz.

"But Rio is going to be gold, right?" asked KWWL.

"Oh of course! That is what I am looking forward to and that is what I am predicting," said Dr. Dietz.

Dr. Dietz leaves for Rio on August 15th.
