Power outage calls inundate Dubuque dispatch center

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Dubuque Police Department is advising people to stay off the roads due to a number of downed trees and down electrical wires, and to hold off on calling them to report power outages.

As of about 8:45 p.m., nearly 6,000 people in Dubuque are without power.

The police are asking people with power outages not to call in to the dispatch center to report outages because they are being "inundated."

They say Alliant has been notified and is working on responding.  In the meantime, they say they want to keep lines in the dispatch center open for emergencies.
