CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Area police officers are making sure children in need have the supplies needed to begin the school year off on the right foot.

The Cedar Rapids Police Protective Association or CRPPA hosted Shop With a Cop today.

Officers paired up with kids at a Cedar Rapids Target store and provided them with school supplies, backpacks, clothing and shoes.

They tell us it's important to contribute back to the community that lends them so much support.

"Our police department has a very good reputation and a very good association with our community. We have a lot of community support and it's just good to get out and keep putting the right foot forward and to keep doing the right things," says Lt. Cory McGarvey, with the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

The shopping spree provides for 95 local children and is completely paid for by the CRPPA, funds for the association come from the police officers and community donations.
