Goodwill helps 20-year-old homeless veteran find place to live

Posted: Updated:

Four homeless veterans are now moving into a new home in eastern Iowa. It's all thanks to two organizations working together.

Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa is teaming up with the Black Hawk County VA.

They found a place in Cedar Falls for four homeless veterans to live in.

The lease for the new home started yesterday, and a 20-year-old veteran has already moved in.

Timothy Hogan grew up in Olwein before leaving for California to become a Marine.

His years of service ended early, and when he came back to Iowa, he struggled to find housing.

This is a fresh start, and a chance for new friends.

Hogan's new roommates will move in later this month.

Goodwill leased this home for a year. They will extend the lease if everything works out well.

In addition to housing, Goodwill will help these vets with finding furniture, clothing, food and transportation.

Goodwill and the Black Hawk County VA hope to lease other homes for veterans in the future.
