Bus driver to be sentenced to 30 days in jail, fine for fatal hit-and-run in Ames

A 24-year-old CyRide bus driver will reportedly be given a 30-day jail sentence and pay a fine for a December hit-and-run that killed an Iowa State University student last December.

Benjamin Clague reached a plea agreement with prosecutors this morning, and will formally be sentenced on Friday. He was scheduled to stand trial beginning tomorrow -- on charges stemming from the collision death of 18-year-old Emmalee Jacobs on the ISU campus in Ames late last year.

According to WHO-TV in Des Moines, Clague will reportedly be sentenced to serve 30 days in jail, with credit for time already served, and pay a $100 fine as part of a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of failure to report an accident. All other charges, which included hit-and-run resulting in death and failure to obey a traffic signal, will be dismissed as part of the deal.
