Storm cleanup continues at Paradise Valley Campground & Resort

CLAYTON COUNTY (KWWL) -

Major cleanup efforts are underway at Paradise Valley Campground & Resort after flash flooding swept through the grounds Saturday.

"It's a slow process. There's a lot of damage, lot of mud, lot of sticks, lot of everything to try to get picked up," Co-owner Shane Landt said.

He and many others have been hard at work since the rain stopped Saturday, cleaning up the extensive damage.

"The creek bank is widened out, extremely. We lost a lot of ground, a lot of our resort owners have lost a lot of ground. So that will have to be replaced, or they'll be without," he said.

Landt says hundreds have showed up to help--both those who live and regularly visit the grounds, and others who don't.

But he's worried that these floods will start to drive business away.  This was the sixth, and worse flood, they've had in just the last four years.

He says his options for preventing future floods are slim.

"We can't buy insurance, because of flooding, and we can't get any financial assistance from anybody, because we're a private little group--family. And it costs a lot of money and it's high time the county, the state, and the government realizes the amount of money that comes to this county and state because of the number of people we have coming here," he said.

Landt says they've had to spend about $700,000 over the past few years to fix damage, and estimates the damage from this storm could reach $200,000.

Despite his concerns, he says they're working as hard as they can to get everything back to normal.

And he adds he's incredibly grateful for all the help they've received so far.
