DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Dyersville Beckman missed out on late opportunities as the Blazers fell to Pleasantville 3-1 in the first round of the state baseball tournament.

The Blazers fell behind early giving up a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. After the Trojans scored on a wild pitch, Nate Sowers followed with an RBI base hit to left for a quick 2-0 lead.

Beckman grabbed one back in the bottom half as Devon Driscoll came to the plate following a wild third to first throw by the Trojans.

Pleasantville added a third run in the 5th, and the Blazers missed opportunities soon followed. With runners on second and third in the fifth inning, Noah Sabers would get cut down at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch. With the same situation and one out in the sixth, Bryan Then flew out to center, Joel Vaske attempted to score on the play, but would get thrown out at the plate. The Blazers again stranded runners on second and third in the seventh.

“It wasn't our time. We just didn't get it done," said Driscoll following the loss, "It would have just taken a hit in the gap or something, but we ended up hitting it right at people."

“The kids came out and played hard," added Blazers' head man Tom Jenk Jr., "They gave it their best effort. It's tough for them to lose down here because they know what the tradition's about.”
