Cinderella run ends for Denver with 10-5 loss to Clear Lake

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Denver came up short this time. The Cyclones, who had won 3 straight as an underdog, including 2 wins over ranked teams, dropped their state tournament opener 10-5 to top seeded Clear Lake.

The Cyclones, making their first state tournament appearance in 16 years, erased an early 1-0 deficit, scoring a run on a mishandled Eli Barrett ground ball to second base in the top of the 3rd inning.

Things turned sour after that. Clear Lake responded with 3 runs in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, and 4 in the 5th to take control. The Cyclones kept fighting putting up 4 runs in the top of the 5th, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Denver's season ends at 20-16.
