An explosion in the German city of Ansbach killed one person and injured at least 10 other people Sunday night, police told NBC News, two days after a gunman killed nine people at a mall in Munich.

An outdoor music festival was taking place at the time in Ansbach, a city of 40,000 people about 20 miles southwest of Nuremberg in Bavaria.

Michael Konrad, a spokesman for police in Nuremberg, confirmed local news reports of the blast and told NBC News that it was believed to have been intentional. The dead person is believed to have set off the explosion, Konrad said.

Police in the Middle Franconia region of Bavaria said the explosion was reported about 10 p.m. (4 p.m. ET) in a popular restaurant district downtown.

Nearly 2,500 people made an orderly evacuation.

The rest of the event was canceled, it said.

More details were expected to be made public at an overnight news conference.

Police wouldn't immediately speculate on whether the explosion was a suicide bomb or was even related to terrorism at all, but they told NBC News they weren't seeking any other suspects.

An attack Friday in Munich, which killed nine people, was preliminarily determined not to have been terrorism-related, Bavarian officials said Sunday.
