Tornado moves through Lake Delhi, reopening celebration goes on

DELHI (KWWL) -

It's an easy day sailing on Lake Delhi.

But Saturday that was not the case. An EF-0 tornado moved through the southwest portion of the lake.

Luckily, it didn't cause much damage. "Some storms come through yesterday, but that was not, didn't cause any large damage around here. We saw approximately an inch and a half of rain," said Lamont Davidson, board member of Lake Delhi.

With estimated winds of 80 miles per hour, the tornado knocked down some trees along the shoreline. Not many other signs of visible damage along Lake Delhi.

This weekend people are out celebrating the opening of the lake. It's been six long years since people in the community have been able to enjoy it.

The lake dried out after flooding caused the dam to breach. "Actually it was pretty frightening when the lake went out, but we were very thankful no one was hurt," said Patti Larson of Delhi.

They're also thankful the tornado didn't damage what they worked so hard on to bring back again.
