Camps cancelled and cooling centers open during dangerous heat

Posted: Updated:

The big story of the day is the weather.

This afternoon, there's a chance it could feel between 100 and 115 degrees outside.

Drinking water is very important on a day like today. Try to get inside and enjoy the AC if you can.

There's a lot of different ways people are preparing for this heat.

Some are getting air conditioners prepared.

A lot of camps are also adjusting and canceling today to keep kids safe.

If you do get too hot today, many libraries, city halls and non-profits are available as cooling centers.

The IOWA DOT is posting this reminder to make sure people don't leave little ones in a hot car.

They say it only takes a car 10 minutes to heat up 20 degrees and become deadly.

They say cracking a window does not protect your child.
