Posted: Updated:

Green Iowa AmeriCorps is hosting its 2nd annual Sustainability Fair Saturday, July 30 in Dubuque.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dubuque Rescue Mission Garden on Iowa St.  It's free and open to the public.

There will be plenty of activities, giveaways, fair games, prizes and workshops.

Within the four hours of the Fair, attendees can visit booths of organizations like the Madison Children’s Museum, where insect chef Julie Butler will be cooking up some insect treats to try free of charge. Additionally, David Estafen from the Food Store will be selling delicious pizza made on-site using garden veggies and a mobile pizza oven.

At 12:00 PM, there will be a speaker panel featuring Eric Schmechel from the Catfish Creek Watershed Management Authority, Laura Klavitter of the Washington Neighborhood Community Garden, and Raki Giannakouros from Green Dubuque.

Fair attendees will get a chance to do hands-on gardening through a permaculture installation as well as a workshop on earth-friendly gardening scheduled for 1:15 PM. Additionally, the importance of mindfulness and mental well-being will be explored in a yoga session held in the garden space at 2:00 PM.

Finally, the Dubuque Debut of the Iowa Learning Farms “Conservation Station” will be taking place at the Fair. The station has three trailers that open to provide a 3D learning experience with rainfall simulators, age-appropriate hands-on activities, pictures, sound, and videos.
