Program helps Linn Co. Law Enforcement better serve those with disabilities

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A new voluntary registration program, Home Again CR, will provide Linn County Law Enforcement with useful information in an attempt to better serve those with autism, Alzheimer's and other developmental disabilities who have a tendency to wander and get lost.

This would help law enforcement for those that may not be able to identify themselves, respond appropriately or provide emergency contact information.

The registration includes basic characteristics and wandering history, such as locations they've been found or a favorite hiding place.

Information about an individual's disorder, such as dislikes and triggers, meltdown signs or calming strategies that work, can be included to better help police in how they approach the individual.

An online form to register can be found at www.cedar-rapids.org/police.
