An Iowa man who assaulted a jailer and tried to kill his mother is sentenced to prison. 25-year-old Brandon Thoma pleads guilty to charges of Attempted Murder, Burglary, Theft, and Assault on a Jailer.
Authorities say Thoma drove from Pella to Elkader on November 10, 2015, where he broke into his mother's home and assaulted her. Police say her husband found her when he got home from work. She was taken to the hospital for her injuries, but did survive.
After a search, Thoma was found and arrested in Madison, Wisconsin. During his prison time, he also assaulted A Clayton County sheriff jailer.
Thoma was given a maximum of 45 years in prison and and a minimum of 17 and a half years.
