All athletes run the risk of an injury, but females face a unique set of health issues. Research has shown women who play sports have higher rates of osteoporosis, eating disorders and menstruation problems. Now a new report suggests pediatricians start looking for symptoms of these conditions during adolescence -- an important time for bone mass development. Early warning signs include a lack of menstruation, low bone density, cardiovascular problems or not consuming enough calories.
