Local infantry leaves for training in Alaska

The first battalion one hundred and thirty third infantry, packed their bags and boarded a plane leaving the Waterloo Airport today.

They are headed to Alaska for annual training.,

Soldiers say the main goal of the training is to get prepared for future deployments.

"Constantly keep readiness, making sure we are ready to do anything that is asked from us, we are ready to deploy in fast action and be ready to move at a moments notice whenever they are ready for us, keep our wits sharp and our skills ready to go," Sargent Aaron McNew.

The training in Alaska is about a month long.
