Shell Rock boy raises money to fight Alzheimer's

Posted: Updated:

In honor of his grandmother and a stranger, one eastern Iowa boy is raising money for Alzheimer's disease.

10-year-old Michael Groen is inspired to help the Alzheimer's Association.

He's been participating in the Waterloo Walk to End Alzheimer's ever since he was a baby.

This year he's walking again and raising money on his own.

He's already raised over 500 dollars, and this weekend he plans to raise even more money with a bake sale.

This year Michael and his mom are raising money in honor of his Great Grandma Jean.

She died this year from Alzheimer's disease.

They're also raising the money in honor of the 76-year-old woman with Alzheimer's who went missing in Bremer County almost two weeks ago. She's still missing.

Michael's family says this shows just how serious and devastating the disease can be.

Michael and his family will be selling treats tomorrow at Waverly Heritage Days.
