WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber presents its annual Legacy Luncheon to recognize William (Bill) Bolster, former General Manager of KWWL and President of CNBC.

The GCVAC will be honoring Bill on Wednesday, July 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden in Cedar Falls.

The 2nd Annual Legacy Luncheon recognizes an individual for their continued leadership and noteworthy influence on the Cedar Valley through philanthropy, volunteerism, their business and personal successes. Bolster has attained national and international acclaim for his contributions and achievements in the world of financial TV news.

An interview will be conducted by Dr. Bill Withers with honoree Bill Bolster discussing business philanthropy, business tips, stewardship, philanthropy, and other topics.

Former General Electric Vice Chairman and CEO of NBC, Bob Wright said, "Bill Bolster is one of the most dynamic people I have come across in this business. As I have stated on many occasions, he is a master builder and his track record in reshaping organizations is truly remarkable. During his tenure at CNBC and WNBC, Bill developed both businesses into successful powerhouses, making them highly profitable assets for GE."

Waterloo is Bill's hometown. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1961, and graduated from Loras College in Dubuque where he met his wife Eileen.

Bill began his career in 1965 as an on air announcer and salesman with KDTH radio in Dubuque. He later joined KWWL as an Account Executive and in a series of promotions became VP/GM for KWWL-TV and a board director for Blackhawk Broadcasting Company. Bill's father was one of the original local investors in Blackhawk Broadcasting Company. He and his family's ties to Waterloo and KWWL are cemented in the legacy of a great television station with a unique story that exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit of R.J. McElroy and the local community.

Bill was enshrined in the Iowa Broadcasting Hall of Fame last year.

Bill Bolster is a giant in the TV industry and most importantly in Iowa. His vision in leading on the nation's top local television stations and then using that station to launch a statewide sports network puts him in the pantheon of great leaders in Iowa broadcasting history.
