Waterloo city council to discuss surveillance cameras

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Surveillance cameras needed at certain businesses? Tonight the Waterloo City Council is discussing the idea.

Waterloo Police Chief Dan Trelka says the current "convenience store security" ordinance is out of date and wants it replaced with this new ordinance.

Banks, businesses that sell alcohol, and cell phone stores are among the types of businesses which would be required to have camera.

The City of Cedar Rapids recently enacted a similar ordinance, expanding the number of businesses required to have surveillance cameras.

The council will discuss the issue tonight at a 4:50 meeting.
