Columbus baseball drops Union 11-3 to advance to regional semis

LA PORTE CITY (KWWL) -

Waterloo Columbus pulled away with 5 runs in the the third inning to knock out Union 11-3 to open up the class 2A post-season.

Union took a pair of early leads, first going up 1-0 in the 1st inning on a run scoring ground out off the bat of Keegan Block. With the game tied 1-1 again in the top of the third, the Knights took a 2-1 lead as Bryon Sells would get hit with the bases loaded.

Columbus, however, responded with a 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. Junior Henry Walters struck a big blow with the game tied 2-2, lining a double over the left fielder scoring a pair of runs. The Sailors out-scored the Knights 10-1 over the final 4 innings to pick up the win.

Columbus will face 10th ranked Dike-New Hartford in a regional semifinal on Tuesday.
