CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

A father dies years after his daughter.

Now the surviving family is working to move on.

Eastern Iowans are now coming together to support the family, and the mother who served our country.

Cedar Falls mom Amanda McCabe is a veteran. Today, a fundraising event will happen at Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 to help her and remember her husband.

Amanda lost her husband to skin cancer in June.

This happens after the couple lost their oldest daughter about 9 years ago to a heart attack.

Mother McCabe says her three other children are keeping her going.

The family is now trying to find a new normal.

Amanda McCabe was in the army, and says her military background is also helping her cope with everything that's happened.

Tonight there will be a dinner, along with a silent auction and raffle at the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. All the money raised from this event will help the family pay for medical bills and other living expenses.

The event is happening from 4 until 8 tonight. If you would like to donate to the family, click here
