FREMONT, Neb. (AP) -- Strong winds knocked down tree limbs and caused roof damage early Thursday as thunderstorms moved across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

Lightning knocked out power to the water treatment system in Fremont, Nebraska, long enough that officials are urging residents to boil their water for the next 24 hours.

Brian Newton with the Fremont utility department says an hour after the water system lost power, a second lightning strike knocked out the back-up generator.

Wind gusts up to 68 mph were recorded in Falls City, Nebraska.

In western Iowa, strong winds damaged the roof of Villisca, Iowa's power plant and knocked down numerous tree branches.

There's also a lot of damage in Fonda, but no one was hurt.
