New eastern Iowa camp for young cancer survivors

Posted: Updated:

He battled cancer for four years.

This summer, he's found a place where he feels at home.

He's one of the campers at a new camp just for kids who've fought cancer.

This week, the Boys and Girls Club and Children's Cancer Connection joined together for a three-day camp.

This is the first time ever this camp has come to eastern Iowa.

It's specifically for kids who had cancer or have siblings who had cancer.

Children's Cancer Connection decided to bring the camp to the Cedar Valley.

Benjamin Barnard was diagnosed with Leukemia almost 7 years ago. He's in remission now, and says this place is where he feels safe.

Children's Cancer Connection says Black Hawk County has many kids who are diagnosed with cancer, especially compared to other counties in the state.

That's why they chose the Cedar Valley as their next location for the camp.

They also have the camp in Des Moines. This is the second day of the three day camp.
