9/11 Mobile Exhibit comes to Jesup

Posted: Updated:

A special 9/11 mobile exhibit is rolling into eastern Iowa as part of Jesup Farmers Day.

Although the event kicks off Thursday, organizers have been preparing for months.

Everyone is excited for big event this week, and several people gathered near Grundy Center to escort the mobile exhibit into town.

More than 400 signs, remembering every first responder who died in the attacks are proudly displayed at 6th and Hawley in Jesup.

Assistant Fire Chief Kevin West has been working for months to bring the exhibit to the 101st Farmers Day event.

"Just to be an American and proud of what's going on, and it's just a big piece of history. It's coming to Jesup and see all that, seeing the firemen here telling their stories and giving the tours -- we will just be really excited," Assistant Fire Chief, West said.

West says four firefighters who served during 9/11 will speak.

"They saw it unfold, and I want to hear from them what they were felling and what they were feeling. It will just be good," West said.

Flags are waving and a portion of 6th Street is already blocked off for the 9/11 Mobile Exhibit that will go right in the heart of Jesup.

"I think we just need to never forget, and it's just a big piece of our history. The younger generation just really doesn't know, and we just need to keep telling that story to let them know," West said.

Farmers Day kicks off Thursday at 5:00 p.m, and it runs through Saturday.

Organizers say the event is free to attend.
