UPDATE: 3 People killed in Johnson County crash

UPDATE: Authorities say Dietrich was driving the wrong way when he struck another car, driven by Nyabitanga.  Shabani was a passenger in Nyabitanga's car.


UPDATE: Authorities have identified the three people killed in a crash on Interstate 380 in Johnson County.

21-year-old Jordan Dietrich, 22-year-old Furaha Nyabitanga, and 26-year-old Djumapili Shabani died in the crash.

The crash is under investigation

UPDATE: Three people die in a crash on Interstate 380 in Johnson County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, someone was driving the wrong way and lost control. Another driver tried to swerve avoid the crash but the two cars hit.

No names have been released at this time.

The crash happened around 3:40 a.m. near the Swisher exit.

The interstate closed for several hours but is now back open.

UPDATE: Interstate 380 in Johnson County is back open following a crash. The northbound section of the interstate had been blocked off for several hours. 

We're still working to get information on whether anyone was injured.


There is an accident blocking a section of I-380, south of Cedar Rapids.

According to the Iowa DOT, I-380 Northbound is blocked from exit 4 to exit 10, near Swisher.

We reached out to the Iowa State Patrol who told us they're working to clear the area but don't know when the interstate will re-open. The Iowa State Patrol would not release any information about injuries.
