Ankeny teacher charged for alleged sexual relationship with recent student

An Ankeny High School teacher is facing sexual exploitation charges for an alleged relationship with a former student.

Police say 27-year-old Amanda Dreier turned herself in Friday on a charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee.

An investigation into the incident began on June 7 around 11 p.m. when officers responding to an unrelated call near Kirkendall Library noticed two vehicles parked next to each other in the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex parking lot, just south of library.

Officers found Dreier and an 18-year-old male in one of the vehicles. Officers questioned the age disparity of the two and discovered Dreier and the male, a recent student of hers, were involved in an ongoing sexual relationship.

Though the male was a recent graduate of Ankeny High School, where Dreier taught English, the relationship is still illegal because Iowa law states relationships between school employees and students are prohibited for a period of 30 days following graduation.
