Decorah Coaching legend expresses his love of Baseball and Family

Posted: Updated:

Legendary Decorah head baseball coach Denny Olejniczak is enjoying his 53rd summer leading young men on the diamond.

Olejniczak ranks number 2 nationally all-time in number of victories by a high school baseball coach.

His teams have made 11 state tournament appearances--three state championships--and three second place finishes.

But Olejniczak's greatest legacy is how he passionately coaches and teaches young men--and the game of life.

"First of all if I didn't like my kids I wouldn't be coaching at Decorah and that is the first statement I will make to that."

You guys have to step up--here we go!

We are total team baseball--we have had some really good players don't misunderstand me but even in the really good team with some really good players it was about team.

But really our kids try to play the way I like them to play --very fundamental. We don't have any flash pizzazz..we don't let them back hand it unless it is absolutely necessary.

I never see you get less passionate about what you do--you are always on.

Our family was built on love and and great family relationship... and wife Paula has been a very steady force until the Parkinson's wore here down. because she was always the steadying force on the bench when I was emotionally going overboard--it's just been--i don't want it to end... when I am on the baseball field time stands still but when I am in the rest of life I can't even think about what I did in the morning--It has just been a good life for my family.
