Storm causes damage in Bremer County

Posted: Updated:

Heavy rain in Waterloo, but the damaging winds missed the city, hitting hard in Bremer County.

StormTRACK 7's Jessica Hartman spoke with residents throughout the county with property damage from the storm.

It took just a few minutes of high winds, hail, and rain to do tear down a garage near Waverly.

Part of the garage thrown across the pond and out into the field beyond. The wind even impaling a board into the ground.

Over in Denver, many residents considering themselves lucky with near misses.

A 100 year old tree no match to the storm.

"Shocking. I got home from work and shocked. My kids said 'You might not be able to get in the driveway. There is a tree down, but I think we will be able to get it.' It is the biggest tree in our yard I think," said Beverly Bahlman, a Denver resident.

With three trees taken out by the storm, one property owner says this is the worst storm damage he has ever had.

"Look around. Yeah it is a mess," said Bob Lang, a Denver resident.

A tree snapped in half and 2 others uprooted. Not to mention the other branches down in the yard, but thankfully no damage to the home.

"Yes. We thought the house was going for a little while. It was getting so wild," said Lang.

Survived the storm and now surviving the clean up with the helping hand of neighbors.

"People keep showing up. That is the beauty of small town Iowa," said Eric Knoblock, Lang's neighbor.

The volunteers hauled away at least four trailer loads of branches in the hour and a half StormTRACK 7 was there and they had a lot more to go to finish the clean up.

These storm damage stories just a few of many in the area Thursday.

At this time, no report of injuries from the storm.
