WAVERLY (KWWL) -

Most high school students look forward to summer break.

One eastern Iowan is spending part of his at school because he wants to create a prosthetic hand.

Waverly- Shell Rock high school student Jacob Staines wanted to create something to help people.

After watching Iron Man, he felt inspired to make a 3-D printed prosthetic hand.

Staines stayed after school building and designing the prosthetic.

He's spent around two and half months working on the hand.

He hopes to finish it in the next few weeks.

The total cost for the hand: around 150 dollars.

Yesterday, Staines presented his project to a small business group in Waverly.

They agreed to support him with a donation.

As of now, the teen isn't sure what he will do with the hand once he's done with it.

He says he focused on getting it done and making sure it works properly.

For the project, the high school student used a 3-D printer at his school and an online design program.
