The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting.

It happened in Boone shortly after 10:15 p.m. Monday night in the area of 332 West 2nd Street. The Boone County Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to a report of a male suspect with a gun threatening people.

Upon arrival, the male suspect was confronted by law enforcement, who say he drew a gun from his waistband. Officers ordered the subject to drop the gun numerous times, but he refused.

After several minutes, the suspect raised his arm and aimed the gun at the officers. Officers then fired their weapons hitting the suspect. He was immediately given medical aid and was sent to the Boone County Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The body has been transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, where an autopsy will be conducted today.

The man's name has not been released.

The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave until the completion of the investigation, per Boone Police Department policy.
