The Iowa State Patrol says a bicyclist participating in the third annual "pedaling for Pancreatic Cancer" fundraiser was killed after being hit by a car.

The crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday in West Liberty.

The victim's name, age and gender have not been released.

Patrol investigators say a 28-year-old West Liberty man was driving a car southbound when he hit the bicyclist, who was also southbound.

The cycling event gave riders a choice of 100-, 65-, 30- or 15-mile routes.

Money raised goes to support pancreatic cancer research.

The crash remains under investigation.
