CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Bob Brooks, whose broadcasting career spanned more than seven decades, died at the age of 89.

Brooks was a long-time figure on both TV and radio in Eastern Iowa. He spent much of his career, most recently at KMRY radio, delivering daily sports broadcasts in the Cedar Rapids area.

He spent most of his career covering the Iowa Hawkeyes and area high school sports. His presence on the high school scene prompted the re-naming of the press box at Cedar Rapids' Kingston Stadium to the "Bob Brooks Press Box.

Brooks covered one of his biggest events of his career in his final year as the Iowa football team advanced to the Rose Bowl for the first time in more than two decades.

Bob Brooks broadcasting career began at Iowa Public Radio station WSUI in 1943.
