Police asking for assistance identifying vehicle involved in collision that injured 6 year old boy

The Vinton Police Department is investigating an accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle that injured a 6-year-old child. This all happened in the area of West 3rd Street and Highway 218 in Vinton around 3:00 p.m. on Friday June 24, 2016.

The vehicle involved was reported to be a silver Chevrolet pickup truck with dual rear wheels that was pulling a white enclosed trailer heading southbound on Highway 218. It has been reported that the child may have made contact with the side of the pickup truck or it's trailer as it passed by.

The child was removed from the scene by family members and was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was flagged down initially by a witness, but then reportedly left the scene traveling east bound on West 4th Street. The driver was described as a white male, possibly in his fifties or sixties.

Vinton Police were not notified of the collision until 3:16 p.m. by a witness. Everyone involved in the accident had already left the scene by that time.

The case is still under investigation and officers are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The police department is asking for help to identify the silver Chevrolet pickup its driver in addition to anyone who witnessed the collision.
