Donor helps Waterloo Police Department

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Waterloo Police Department will get a new K-9 officer, thanks to a NorthCrest Specialty Care resident.

Donor and dog lover, Delpha Barron, gave Waterloo Police $10,000.

That money will pay for a new dog, after one of the K-9 officers was recently retired.

The K-9 Unit operates only on donations, and Sergeant Gus Farmer said these dogs help with tracking people and finding drugs.

"It's a great feeling. We've been working on fund raising for a couple months now, and without a contribution from Delpha this wouldn't be possible," Waterloo Police Sergeant, Gus Farmer said.

Sergeant Farmer said he plans to get the new K-9 officer the first week in August.
