(KWWL) -

Five friends in Mount Vernon started a cookie and lemonade stand to raise money for the Orlando shooting victims and their families.

The friends are still wrapping their heads around how many people are reaching out to them and donating to their cause.

The kids sold the treats about a week ago at a nearby golf course.

This week, they continue to get donations from people who weren't able to make it out to the sale.

Together, the group raised almost six hundred dollars.

They say people in Iowa do care.

"It was great to see how many people actually came and donated not just two dollars, but 20 to 30 to 50 dollars," Connor Spencer says.

Fiona Spencer says, "It was just really important to me that we made more than just 30 bucks, so we could actually help and make a dent in someone's funeral cost or hospital bills."

The friends are giving the money to One Orlando, an organization dedicated to supporting the victims of the shooting and their families.

People from all over Iowa and Illinois donated to the lemonade and cookie stand.

The kids are still making treats for people who couldn't make it out to the stand. They also set up a Pay-Pal account for people to donate to.

The friends will turn in the money they raised for One Orlando by the weekend.
