Long lost wallet returned to Dubuque woman after 40 years

A Dubuque woman was reunited Wednesday with a wallet she lost 40 years ago.

Audrey Henson, now in her 80's, says she doesn't have any memory of the wallet, or losing it, but was excited to see it nonetheless.

"It was amazing. I just couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke, really, because I had no memory of this whatsoever," said Henson.

Simina Lewis was the one that found the wallet.  She was doing construction work on a house on University Ave. in Dubuque when she found it in the walls.  She then took to social media to track Henson down.

"I asked if anyone knew this lady is, and all the sudden, just comments after comments after comments. I couldn't even keep up with it. I was getting 30 notifications at once. And come to find out, I got her number and gave her a call," Lewis said.

The two met Wednesday night, and spent some time going through the contents of the wallet.

Among them, pictures of her children, old photos taken for a passport, and coupons for free meals at a restaurant that hasn't been around for years.

For anyone who knew Henson in her younger years, she says they wouldn't be surprised to learn she had lost a wallet.

"In high school I was notorious for losing my wallet," she said. "I wish my husband could be here to see this, he would say, "oh no!""

Now Henson says she can't wait to take another trip down memory lane with her kids.

"It's a whole lifetime of memories, after all these years," she said.
