WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A Christian non-profit announced this week it will be closing programs in Waterloo.

Quakerdale announced Tuesday it has decided to end its Emergency Shelter, Child Welfare Emergency Services and Supervised Apartment Living contracts with the state of Iowa. Quakerdale cites "new contracting risks in 2017, high program costs, and other mounting challenges" for its decision.

According to Quakerdale's release, 20 children and 30 employees will be impacted.

Amy McCoy with the Iowa Department of Human Services says the state will work with the children affected by Quakerdale's decision to find appropriate placement.
