Birds are back at Butler and Linn County Fairs this week

Posted: Updated:

Summer is here, which means it's county fair time.

Two are underway here in eastern Iowa, and a popular animal that was missing last year is back.

The birds are back and ready for judging at both the Butler and Linn County Fairs this week.

Last year, the Department of Agriculture banned birds from fairs across the state due to the bird flu.

Instead of having birds on display for judging, the Linn County Fair improvised with pictures.

Judges decided which pictures of beaks and tails stood out.

But judges will have the real deal this week.

In fact, this morning there will be a poultry show at the Linn County Fair.

Last summer, the bird flu killed 48 million birds nationwide including 24 million Iowa laying hens.
