Dubuque Fire battles afternoon blaze

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Dubuque Fire Department responded to fire call at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday on the 400 block of Hill Street.

Assistant Fire Marshal Mike McMahon says they believe the fire started in a small, portable shed behind a house, and the flames quickly spread to the house and a nearby trailer.

The flames were out completely just before 2 p.m.

Multiple neighbors say they heard at least two explosions, which McMahon says could've been aerosol cans inside the trailer.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and two cats inside were rescued.  Officials say two firefighters were bitten by one of the cats.

According to a press release sent out by the Dubuque Fire Department, three injuries were reported.  No further word on who sustained the injuries.

The house next door also sustained some slight damage, but the flames didn't jump to that structure.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
