CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

More than 3,000 people were without power early Thursday morning after a car hit a pole, knocking down power lines.

The crash happened at around 12:45 a.m. at the intersection Mt. Vernon Road and Dows Road. Jessica Barske, 17, lost control of her vehicle and hit a fire hydrant before the power lines were knocked down, causing her vehicle to rollover.

Barske was transported to Mercy Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Due to the accident, parts of Cedar Rapids were without power for several hours. Power has since been restored.

Barske was issued two traffic citations.

The crash remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
