Kids learn the basics of Iowa farming at farm camp

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Some kids go to science camp or sports camp in the summer -- but other kids go to farm camp.

Kids are learning the basics of harvesting and planting vegetables, and learning about farming.

Matthew 25, a non profit in Cedar Rapids, holds the camp for elementary schoolers every summer.

Campers go to a different farm each day to learn about different types of farming, including animal farming.

"Today is just an opportunity for them to really... be hands on with the animals," said Eden Youngberg, a development and communications coordinator at Matthew 25. "[Campers] got to be hands on with the vegetables, now they're gonna be hands on with the animals, and just kind of learn more about farmers here in Iowa, and the different types of farming."

Farm camp is a week long and happens three different times throughout the summer months.

Organizers say some campers come back year after year.
