CNN's Anderson Cooper blasts FL Attorney General for being a "hypocrite"

Posted: Updated:

It was a heated interview on live television.

CNN host Anderson Cooper slammed Florida's Attorney General for her LGBT views in the wake of the Orlando massacre.

Cooper accused Pam Bondi of hypocrisy during a live interview outside the hospital where people caught up in Omar Mateen's deadly rampage are being treated.

He brought up the fact that she said "allowing same-sex marriage would bring significant harm to the state."

But a few days ago, shortly after the massacre, she said "anyone who went against the LGBT community will be met by the full extent of the law."

Cooper pressed her saying, "I talked to a lot of gay and lesbian people here yesterday, who are not fans of yours. They thought you were being a hypocrite... Do you really think you’re a champion of the gay community?"

Bondi fired back, "I’ve never said I don’t like gay people."  She continued by saying she was trying to protect Florida's constitution when she made the remarks.

Cooper then said, "Is it hypocritical to portray yourself as a champion of the gay community? I’m just reflecting what a lot of gay people have told me. They don’t see you as that."

Bondi then retorted that today was about the victims, "I’m not portraying myself as anything, other than trying to help human beings.  I’m not championing anything other than Floridians."
