The Waukon native Parker Hesse moved from linebacker to defensive end---where he started eight games in place of the injured Drew Ott.

Hesse had a solid redshirt freshman season with 44 tackles, 2 sacks and an interception return for a touchdown.

Hesse gives credit to the Hawkeye coaches in helping him make a successful transition from linebacker to defensive end.

Hesse said, "I don't know if I would I have guessed to play at defensive end I would have stayed at linebacker---they mentioned during the process that I could play somewhere else but all in all the coaches know best they have been at it a lot longer than me so it is pretty simple to put your faith in them and obviously."

Hawks host Miami of Ohio in their season opener on September 3rd at Kinnick Stadium.
