The Islamic Center "Masjed Al-Noor" in Waterloo released the following statement Monday afternoon following the massacre in Orlando over the weekend.

The Islamic Center "Masjed Al-Noor" is outraged by the horrific shooting in Orlando, Florida, and condemns this heinous attack.

We stand with the victims of this senseless act of violence, mourn the loss of their innocent lives and extend our condolences and prayers to their families.

This sick, cowardly act has no justification in any religion or ideology. We stand in solidarity with our fellow Americans as well as the world against this horrific act and any act of hatred, violence, and discrimination toward any individual or group.

This tragedy is being described as the worst mass shooting in US history. It took place right after we laid our beloved Muhammad Ali "The Greatest" to rest, who was inspired by Islam to spread peace in every corner of this world.  We refuse to bear the burden of this "so-called Muslim" perpetrator's actions; Ali is who we are, not this monster.

Finally, we are committed to show love to all and continue to foster more interfaith engagements and better understanding of Islam in the Cedar Valley.

Peace to you all,

President
