Report: Man with weapons, possible explosives arrested in Santa Monica ahead of L.A. pride parade

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — A man has been arrested after he was found with weapons and possible explosives on his way to the L.A. gay pride parade, according to a report.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Santa Monica police responded to a call of a suspected prowler. When they arrived they found a man inside his car who said he was waiting for a friend.

Police found in the car “several weapons” and tannerite, an ingredient that could be used to create a pipe bomb.

The man reportedly told police he was on his way to the Los Angeles gay pride parade in West Hollywood.

The arrest came just hours after a gunman opened fire on a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla., killing at least 50 people in what is the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.

Officials do not know yet whether there is a connection to the man’s arrest and the Orlando attack.

Officials are beefing up security at the parade.

The report says the suspect was driving a car with Indiana plates.
