Toddler with mysterious illness excited for school

Posted: Updated:

For a long time, Liam's parents didn't know if school would be a possibility in the near future.

The flu turned into a medical mystery.

But this little guy stayed strong. Now he has a new hope.

Liam's medical mystery caused his organs to shut down. His heart had to be restarted, and his fingers and toes had to be removed.

A teacher and family friend heard Liam's story.

After some testing, the teacher and others decided he should start school next fall at Southwestern Wisconsin Elementary in Grant County.

He needs some help working on his motor skills, which is why he'll be a part of childhood special education.

Liam's teacher says with the help of this program next fall, she thinks he will be able to start Kindergarten without special needs assistance.

Doctors still don't know exactly what's wrong with Liam.

He's doing ok now, but there's a possibility his foot may be amputated in the future.
