CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

An out-of-state artist is making his mark in Iowa.

Tom Torluemke will spend the week painting an original mural near the Cedar Rapids Art Center.

The piece, titled Current: The Pulse of Life, is a tribute to the city -- and includes the state bird, rock and flower.

It also pays homage to Keokuk, a Native American who serves as the namesake for the Eastern Iowa Town.

"It's like a combination of a lot of nature elements in the mural combined with very specific Cedar Rapids symbology. Like for example, we have the oak tree," Torluemke said, pointing to one of the Cedar Rapids tokens.

The mural is part of the Arts Center's courtyard renovation project.

This isn't Torluemke's first time working in the city -- he also created a mural for Legion Arts in 2012.
