Home Builder's Blitz builds 3 new houses in Cedar Rapids in one week

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Three new houses are going up in Cedar Rapids -- in just five days.

Habitat for Humanity and Cedar Rapids Area Home Builders are teaming up this week for Home Builder's Blitz.

The program also built homes in the area in 2012 and 2014 for people hit by the 2008 flood.

Home Builder's Blitz is back again this year with dozens of workers.

"We've pretty much run out of the families that had been affected by the flood," said Ron Olinger, a Habitat for Humanity construction director, "and now we're just building for people who are in need of a house."

Volunteers work around 13 hours a day; even longer if their job isn't completed.
