Congressman Steve King may have broken state law at polling place

(AP) -

Congressman Steve King may have broken a state law against photographing a marked ballot when he posted a photo on his Twitter account.

King on Tuesday morning posted a photo of himself holding a ballot with the choices marked with the caption, "Here's the first vote for the Constitutional Conservative in the race."

Since Democratic blogger John Deeth tweeted that photographing a marked ballot is illegal in Iowa, Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald says he's received calls. Iowa's top election official, State Auditor Paul Pate, says in a statement that he's asking voters to refrain from taking selfies with ballots until Iowa's law is updated.

A section of Iowa's election law prohibits the use of cameras, cellular telephones or other electronic devices in voting booths.

A King spokeswoman didn't immediately respond.
